الفاتحة

Pejuang kemerdekaan dan Tokoh Wartawan Negara, Tan Sri Abdul Samad Ismail yang meninggal dunia di Pusat Perubatan Pantai di sini pukul 5.58 petang semalam, akibat jangkitan paru-paru selamat dikebumikan di Perkuburan Islam Bukit Kiara selepas solat Jumaat hari ini.

Jenazah Allahyarham sebelum itu dibawa dari rumahnya di No. 2, Lorong 16/7C, Petaling Jaya dan disembahyangkan di Masjid Kolej Malaya, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Petaling Jaya dan tiba di tanah perkuburan pada kira-kira 2.30 petang. Bekas penasihat akhbar New Straits Times itu meninggalkan seorang balu Puan Sri Habibah Hamid, dua anak lelaki, enam anak perempuan, 26 cucu dan 4 cicit.

Tan Sri A. Samad Ismail, widely accepted as the best bilingual Malaysian journalist ever, died at Pantai Medical Centre here at 5.58pm yesterday. He was 84. The National Journalism Laureate had been admitted to the hospital on Aug 25 for a lung and blood infection which worsened and led to multiple organ failure. The former New Straits Times adviser leaves behind wife Puan Sri Habibah Hamid, two sons, six daughters, 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
