Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has officially fill in the 7th UMNO Presidency on the 28th March 2009. In his first remark as the new President of UMNO, he expressed his gratitude and extended his congratulation to the new line up of UMNO Highest Council (Majlis Tertinggi UMNO).
Futhermore, he also emphasized the spirit of loyalty towards the party regardless neither the candidates were lost on the General Assembly election nor the candidate are being disqualified to compete. For candidates who lost during the General Assembly election , Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak quoted “Those who are not selected please be reminded that our political struggle were far less than over.”
As the new President of UMNO, be bowed to fullfill his promises to apply a number of changes to UMNO especially on the party constitution. Among its are the voting system during the General Assembly election. The objective is to make the system become more democratic. We would be able to witness the 3.2 million UMNO members to vote for their prefered leaders simutaneously. Unlike the current system that only permits 2000 representative out of 191 division.
In addition, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has also reminded that all members of UMNO must be aware, there is no point for any of them to become an elected leader in UMNO if the party itself have no power especially the power to form the govenment. Therefore we must be aware and we should be able to comprehend the needs of the public in order to visualise it in the form of government policy.
